The World of Thea: A Player’s Guide

//
//Context: This is an excerpt from the “manual” of sorts / reference page for the campaign. I update it from time to time, which is why you’ll notice that some references are now for towns that have been destroyed, or characters that have passed. There’s also a player settlement that’s grown into a small city, complete with its own shops and craftspeople.

The World of Thea: A Player’s Guide

The World

Your adventures so far have taken place in a world called Thea, with a written history spanning nearly five millennia and many myths of times long before mortal races. It is presently the year 188 E.E., shorthand for Empire Established, marking time in relation to when the Latrimanian Empire was founded.

Places

Aievel : The last known Elven city, built ~200 B.E., after the utter decimation and near extinction of the Elves at the conclusion of the War of Blood and Steel.

Avaj’riss : Also referred to as Freeport, it is the only major shipping hub in Thea not under Latrimanian control, and as such, it is extremely popular among non-humans and criminals alike. Though it has no formal government, it is unquestionably under the thumb of the Trader’s Guild, whose headquarters dominate the central district of the city. It’s harbor is the third largest in Thea.

Drakk : A small port town controlled by Drakk-kin, half-Elf half-Dragon humanoids. Well defended, and the only harbor in the Dragon Isles.

Gilford : A large village east of Gilmonos. Birthplace to both Reya Sronah and Rhotûl Elbra. Many Gilmonosian traders and nobles reside here.

Gilmonos : The second largest port in Thea and under tight Imperial control. Gilmonos functions as a trade hub for Dwarven, Gnomish, and even Halfling goods. Second only to Latrim in power and prestige.

Korotu : Capital of the Gnomish Kingdom. Bastion of scientific and magical studies, and home of the Grand Academy, which technically admits any race as pupils, but in reality is almost entirely Gnomish in both pupils and professors.

Latrim : Seat of the Empire. Once the most powerful Human kingdom, now the greatest city in Thea. Latrim has the largest and busiest port in all of Thea, and also the highest concentration of military and magical power in the world.

New Grovestown : The very last Living Tree City, and the Dwarven capital, it was built with Human aid in 232 B.E. after the Elven razing of Grovestown, the oldest city of Thea.

Ven’Gul : More of a disparate gathering of settlements than a village or a city, this region is home to the “Blood Dwarves”, who do not recognize the authority of New Grovestown, feel abandoned by their own people, and who hold violent grudges against both Elves and Men.

Wonusburg : Farming and fishing village in the Ketsi wetlands. “Grain basket of the South”.

Wonusport : Fourth largest harbor in Thea, and technically under Imperial control, but nicknamed “Little Freeport” for the amount of smuggling and criminal traffic the Empire can’t seem to halt, despite a strong military presence.

Colareton : Port City of Extraneus Bigas built in the ruins of Wonusport. Home to the tavern “The Starving Bear”, as well as an inn, an alchemical / tinkerer workshop, a skydock / observatory, an interfaith temple, and an armory / barracks.

The New Living Forest : Northeast of the Living Willow Grove, itself directly east of the Legince river. Skyplitter has a splinter tribe there, and has sworn protection to both Groves. The Blood Dwarves previously in service to Dieter now dwell in this Grove and have similarly sworn to protect it.

The Pact : The physical location and manifestation of the arcane ritual that serves to prevent the uninvited intrusion of hosts of Celestials or Infernals.

The Temple of Truth : Home to a secular order, based in the ruins of an old fortress monastery built into a cliffside. Near the Rengi and Stishu Rivers.

The Latrimanian Royal Family (And Rhotûl)

☼ Emperor Lökuuth Sronah : Fifth Emperor of the Latrimanian Empire, the most powerful and expansive nation in Thea. Though only thirty years of age, he was a well respected and much loved ruler. He passed after Infernal blood magic forced him into a coma.

☼ Empress Reya Sronah: Fourth Empress of the Latrimanian Empire, ruling in her husband’s stead. Intelligent and working for the best interests of her people, but stymied constantly by many nobles, the military, and some religious sects. Barely survived Kalara’s murder attempt.

☼ Princess Kalara Sronah: Heir to the Latrimanian Empire. Beloved by Thea’s people for her friendly disposition and precocious candor, she has proven to be Latrim’s greatest apparent threat after murdering her father, unborn brother, and nearly murdering her mother.

☼ Rhotûl Elbra, Vizier and Lord Regent: Distant cousin to the Empress and sworn brother to Lökuuth, he has known both of them since childhood and was responsible for the two of them meeting and eventually falling in love. Often seen as a power hungry manipulator, but is in truth extremely loyal.

Other Figures of Note

☼ Ser Enna: Highest ranking officer of the Aesalon, a spymaster and specialist beyond compare. Devoted to the Sronah family beyond question.

☼ Atronius: Leads the Church of Truth, a quasi-militant anti-divinity movement largely composed of former Tyr followers and soldiers.

☼ Erik: Former Paladin of Tyr and Master to R’ytheon, Atronius’ Faith Militant commander and trusted comrade.

☼ Skysplitter: Leads the Alliance, a formerly nomadic recently settled nation of mostly half breed tribes, but accepting of any race.

☼ Druscilla Dewey: Right hand of Skysplitter, a Nature Cleric in possession of various Necron tomes, and a capable warrior.

☼ Oslyc Minddelver: A former Grand Academy researcher turned rebel, who sunk the Grand Academy and helped stop them from building Warforged.

☼ Vecna: Also known as the False Shaper, Vecna was once ‘Edwin the Shining’, a hero of another cycle who betrayed his comrades and achieved a form of immortality that has escaped even the scythe of Kelemvor. His motivations, like his powers, are unknown at this time, though Kelemvor is insistent that he is a threat to the balance of the Multiverse.

Dragons

☼ Reonam: Father of Nosia, the ‘Golden Emperor’ who leads the Metalla, the ‘good’ dragons of Thea. Grand Master of The Burning Heart.

☼ Nosia : A young adult Gold Dragon who often appears as a human beggar. Spends more time in his human form than he does as a dragon.

Exniar : The ‘King in Crimson’, leader of the Chroma, the ‘bad’ dragons of Thea.

Mother” : Matriarch of a clan of Faerie Dragons near the ruined town of Wonusburg.

The Forces Above and Below

Thea is the Material Plane of the Multiverse. The Ethereal Plane is a ‘phase shift’ of the Material Plane, and as such, does not exist in the other Planes (such as the Heavens or Underfires). The Astral Plane is the ‘void’ or ‘dark matter’ of the Multiverse that contains all the planes; all planes of significance / common knowledge are listed here. Not listed are the various Elemental Planes, which function only as conduits for their particular energies and contain no ‘living beings’ as one would think of them. Also not listed are any pocket dimensions or similar extraplanar locations.

The Shapers

☼ Azuth – Lawful Neutral – Shaper of Mages – A left hand pointing upward, outlined in fire. Sorcerers and Warlocks more often than Wizards, Druids, or other spellcasters. Worship of Azuth over Mystra is often looked upon arrogant or selfish, save for in some Elven circles.

☼ Chauntea – Neutral Good – Shaper of Agriculture – A blooming rose over a sheaf of grain. Farmers, some traders and nobles in rural areas.

☼ Deneir – Neutral Good – Shaper of Writing – A lit candle above an open eye. Scribes, librarians, some bards.

☼ Eldath – Neutral Good – Shaper of Peace – A waterfall plunging into a still pool. A very popular Shaper, especially among Dwarves.

☼ Gond – Neutral Good – Shaper of Craft – A toothed cog with four spokes. Smiths, tanners, even alchemists and enchanters.

☼ Helm – Lawful Neutral – Shaper of Protection – A staring eye on an upright left gauntlet. Knights, mercenaries, guards, etc.

☼ Ilmater – Lawful Good – Shaper of Endurance – Two hands bound at the wrist with red cord. Athletes, some monks, priests, and paladins.

☼ Kelemvor – Lawful Neutral – Shaper of Death – An upright skeletal hand with balanced scales. All respect Kelemvor, few revere him – mostly gravediggers, some battlefield medics, and some who don’t know what they’re toying with…

☼ Lathander – Neutral Good – Shaper of Birth & Renewal – A road traveling into a sunrise. Midwives, druids, priests, clerics, nuns.

☼ Leira – Chaotic Neutral – Shaper of Illusion – A point down triangle, swirled in mist. Jesters, entertainers, bards, and diplomats.

☼ Lliira – Chaotic Good – Shaper of Joy – A triad arrangement of three six pointed stars. Another very popular Shaper, most of all with prostitutes.

☼ Mielikki – Neutral Good – Shaper of Forests – A unicorn head. Druids, rangers, and a majority of Dwarves.

☼ Milil – Neutral Good – Shaper of Poetry & Song – A five stringed harp made of leaves. Bards, primarily, but also singing monks.

☼ Mystra – Neutral Good – Shaper of Magic – A circle of seven stars. More popular than Azuth with more… tempered spell casters.

☼ Ogmha – Neutral – Shaper of Knowledge – A blank scroll. Monks, scribes, scientists, mages… any seeker of knowledge may have a small Ogmha statue they keep between their candle and their pages so that his shadow is ever guiding.

☼ Savras – Lawful Neutral – Shaper of Divination – A crystal ball full of eyes. Fortune tellers, rogues, astronomers and astrologers.

☼ Selune – Chaotic Good – Shaper of the Moon – A pair of eyes with upturned crescent moon pupils. Popular among Elves, Halfbreeds, and Outsiders.

☼ Silvanus – Neutral – Shaper of Wild Nature – An oak leaf. Dwarves, druids, rangers, and many Steppes folk.

☼ Sune – Chaotic Good – Shaper of Love & Beauty – A red haired maiden. Most anyone reveres here save for when they feel abandoned by her.

☼ Tempus – Neutral – Shaper of War – An upright flaming sword. Generals, knights, soldiers, mercenaries… though they’d be wiser to follow Eldath.

☼ Torm – Lawful Good – Shaper of Courage & Self-Sacrifice – A white right gauntlet. More popular among the priesthood than in barracks, but widely followed by many.

☼ Tymora – Chaotic Good – Shaper of Good Fortune – A face up coin. Devoted followers of Tymora are quite rare, for Good Fortune is often fleeting.

☼ Tyr – Lawful Good – Shaper of Justice – Balanced scales resting on a warhammer. Many paladins, many humans. Some particularly vengeful Steppes folk and Dwarves follow Tyr, as do some Elves who feel it is unjust that they were so greatly humiliated after the War of Steel and Blood.

☼ Waukeen – Neutral – Shaper of Trade – An upright coin with Waukeen’s profile facing left. Incredibly popular among merchants and sailors, and often printed on coins minted by the Trader’s Guild, or their proxy Banker’s Guilds. You’re more likely to find a Waukeenian coin of fair weight than any locally minted crown piece, save for Latrimanian coinage.

Extraneus Bigas & Allies

Extraneus Bigas Adventure Company is the formal ‘head’ of Colareton and has final say; any governmental leadership must answer to ExBig above any state or personal interests. Founders get shares in Colareton profits.

Two Adepts can override a Master, but otherwise the Master is the tie breaker vote.

Founders:     Master:     Fujin     Adept:     Colare, R’ytheon, Shen     Adjunct:     Quay

Lay Members:     Journeyman:     Keht     Apprentice:     Ropahlo     Treasurer:     Siverj

☼ Quay ‘I’ll Put It On The List’ Sarpuncher : A slightly insane rock gnome and former Wizard-In-Residence for ExBig. Now acts in a research and support role from his laboratory in Colareton. Was a bit disturbed before traveling through the Underfires, and is even more unhinged now.

☼ Siverj ‘The Fridge’ Tetch : City manager for Colareton, and majordomo of the Extraneus Bigas Estate in Latrim. Is absolutely above the board, but not above doing something under the table if it benefits the whims of his masters.

☼ Keht Emeraldskin : A Drakk-kin sailor and fighter, one of the survivors of Exniar’s attack on Drakk.

☼ Darius : an Elven smith working the Forge of Ladnas in Colareton along with

☼ Fojwon : a half-Orc survivor of Avaj’Riss and fellow smith at the Forge of Ladnas.

☼ Teloc : female Elf tailor in Latrim. Knows Siverj, and now Fujin.

☼ Grot : a Goblin scout now working security in Colareton’s developing mines.

☼ Gnome : a Kobold shaman providing support and coordination in Colareton’s developing mines.

☼ ‘Ro’pahlo : also known as Giatras Frikti; an inventor, hedge wizard, and alchemist. Apprenticed to Quay.

☼ Chakas Kassiteros : a Gilmonosian noblewoman, one time love of Fujin’s, and object of Rophalo’s affections.

☼ Bampas Kassiteros : a wool merchant and father of Chakas. Moved to Colareton for fear of losing his daughter. Again.

☼ Stikka : a Kobold skirmisher working as a bartender and boulderdier on the Classis.

Colareton

☼ Colareton’s Farms: Still in development, with Bill & Sarah, parents of Joseph & Nell, farming for free for Colareton, funded for land & equipment, and gifted with livestock.

☼ Colareton’s Mines: Currently being excavated. To be worked by Goblins and Kobolds previously under Gorak Haforkin.

☼ The Forge of Ladnas: Dragon Smithy, worked by Fojwon the Half-Orc and Darius Antola the Elf. Decorated ‘tastefully’ with the severed hand of Exniar. Red scale coal furnace, living metal tools, obsidian fixtures, dragonhide bellows in a “perpetual motion” configuration. Also houses the Smithing Hammer of Brutality and the Supreme Anvil.

☼ The Skydock, Zvitok: also an Observatory and an Alchemical / Tinkerer Workshop, manned (gnomed?) by Quay. Also presently the home to Ropahlo, Quay’s Apprentice.

☼ The Starving Bear: Tavern, staffed by Markeus “Marky Mark”, the blind Human. Serves dragon meat as a Colareton delicacy, as well as various delicious sandwiches and libations. Has a jukebox inside. Connected to a brewery-in-progress next door.

☼ Temple & Barracks: R’ytheon’s contribution to Colareton. Allows for diverse worship, but is primarily dedicated to the Faith Militant of Kelemvor.
